  • Turn the volume setting on your electronics down to no more than 50%. This is one very easy way to make sure that you do not unintentionally do harm to your ears without even knowing it. Cell Phones and MP3 players all have a speaker/music volume setting that can be changed in the actual hard settings of the phone itself. Once this is changed, if you can enjoy your music safely!
  • Say no to cotton swabs that fit in the ear, these can push earwax further into the ear or puncture the eardrum. Earwax itself can cause hearing loss, but when taken care of safely you won’t have to worry about damaging your ears. Cleaning ear wax can be done with specific products dedicated to safely cleaning ear wax. An at home way to clean the outer part of the ear is to simply wipe them down with a damp cloth.
  • Put a pack of foam ear protectors in your backpack, briefcase, purse, or wallet. You never know when they may come in handy. These foam ear protectors can be purchased at your local grocery store or pharmacy and do not cost much. Some places like nightclubs and concerts are even starting to give them out for free!
