Our licensed hearing professionals and/or audiologists conduct our hearing evaluations. This screening is a basic hearing test that is used to determine how well you hear at various frequencies or pitches. A hearing test is recommended at age 50, unless you're having difficulty, someone comments that you may not be hearing, or you have other symptoms of hearing loss sooner. Recent studies show that the sooner hearing loss is detected and treated, the easier it is to adapt to hearing the sounds of life. When hearing loss goes undiagnosed or untreated, it can become more difficult to learn to hear again.
A hearing test begins with questions pertaining to your overall health and your hearing history.
Commonly asked questions about your hearing may include:
Do you have difficulty hearing?
How long have you had a hearing loss?
Does anyone in your family have a hearing problem?
Do you have difficulty hearing from one ear or both ears?
Were /are you exposed to loud noise daily?
Do your ear(s) ring?
Do you have trouble with dizziness or balance?
Did you suffer from ear infections as a child?
Is there any pain in your ear(s)?
Is it harder to hear the voices of men, women, or children?
Do you have difficulty following a conversation in noisy environments?
Our licensed experts may ask about medications you are currently taking. This is important because many prescription and over-the-counter medication may be harmful to your hearing. This is also the time to mention anything else you feel relates to your hearing loss. Our expert professionals will then conduct audiometric testing to see if you have hearing loss. If the results show you have a hearing loss, you may need additional testing to more accurately diagnose the problem.
While a hearing test can range from a short process to a variety of tests, our professionals will always take the time to explain every step, and help you understand the results of your audiogram test. If our hearing professional determines your hearing loss is not substantial, you will not need to be tested again for one year unless you notice a change in hearing sooner.
